Reagan County added three more positive COVID-19 cases to its total yesterday with two of those coming from Reagan County Care Center employees.

The three positives raise the total number attributed to Reagan County to nine. The total number of positive cases is a cumulative figure which will never go down.

The Texas Department of State Health Services is showing Reagan County has two recoveries out of the nine total cases.

Reagan Hospital District CEO Jonathon Voelkel said the two Care Center employees were given the COVID-19 test after their daily screening showed signs and symptoms of the virus.

Voelkel said one of the employees works in a direct patient care role, while the other works in a non-direct patient care role.

Both employees were referred to a primary care physician who ordered the tests.

The two new positives for the Care Center bring the total number of Care Center employees who have tested positive for COVID-19 to four.

The first two, who tested positive at the end of May, account for Reagan County's two recoveries.

No Care Center residents have tested positive for COVID-19.

Voelkel said the third positive test result that came in yesterday is for a Reagan County resident.

"I think it is important for people to understand we are seeing an uptick in cases locally," Voelkel said. "We are asking people to help slow the spread. Wear a mask, wash your hands and limit contact with people outside of your home."

Voelkel stressed that wearing a mask is an important part of that equation.

"Wearing a mask helps slow the spread," Voelkel said. "We have had people test positive locally who showed no signs. Wearing a mask will help those who are asymptomatic, and never get a test done, from spreading the virus to others. It is a simple measure that can go a long way if everyone will wear a mask in public."

Reagan County's first two COVID-19 positives came from two asymptomatic employees at the Care Center, four have come from Reagan County citizens tested at RHD, and two are from Care Center employees recently tested.

The ninth Reagan County positive shown in the State's figure comes from testing in Tom Green County.

Reagan Hospital District also had two positive cases which were attributed to Pecos County and Glasscock County. Those two are not reflected in the State's figure of nine for Reagan County.

A total of 95 people have been tested at RHD through outpatient testing with 79 negative, eight positives, eight pending.
